Common Purpose – Stronger Together

‘’We believe in the power of people working together for the greater good.

We encourage collaboration, inclusivity, support and shared success within our

team, our communities and the wider wedding industry.’’

At Fulcrum, Common Purpose is one of the values at the very heart of who we

are.

For us, Common Purpose is about recognising that while we are all individuals,

living different lives, facing different challenges and bringing different

experiences to the table, we are also part of something much bigger than

ourselves.

We are all part of families, friendship groups, workplaces, neighbourhoods and

communities. And each of those becomes stronger when us, the people within

them recognise that we have something to contribute, no matter how small or

how big.

Having a Common Purpose doesn’t mean we all have to think the same, live the

same way or agree on everything. In fact, we believe there is enormous strength

in our differences, be it financial, cultural, or knowledge, it means finding the

things that connect us and understanding that, when we take some

responsibility for the wellbeing of the people and communities around us, we

can collectively make life a little better for everyone.

Community Belongs to All of Us

Community doesn’t simply exist around us. They are built, shaped and sustained

by people. So, community is all of us and all of us have the responsibility to

make our communities thrive.

A strong community is created through thousands of individual actions,

checking on a neighbour, picking up a piece of litter, volunteering, offering a lift.

Listening to somebody who needs to talk. Speaking up when someone is being

excluded. Simply noticing when another person might need a little kindness.

None of those things will change the world overnight, but we believe that if we

firstly, open our eyes beyond our own front door and see where help is needed

and where we can provide that help and support, then secondly do it, we will

most definitely make a difference.

Everyone Has Something to Give

We also recognise not everyone has the same resources.

Some people have money to donate; some don’t. Some have free time; others

don’t.

At Fulcrum, we believe contribution should be measured by intention, not size.

One person might organise an entire community project. Another might make a

cup of tea for the person organising it. Both have contributed.

It is the understanding that our actions affect other people and that each of us

has some responsibility for the kind of community and world we want to live in.

When enough people adopt the mindset of knowing they have something to

contribute, something powerful happens. Responsibility stops belonging to an

unnamed “someone else” and starts becoming shared.

Our value of Common Purpose means we continually ask ourselves

What can I contribute?

What can we as a group contribute?

How can we encourage others to contribute?

Common Purpose Within Fulcrum

The same principal shapes how we work together at Fulcrum.

We are a team of individuals. We have different personalities, strengths, ideas,

experiences and perspectives and we value that.

We are connected by a shared purpose and a shared set of values.

We believe that responsibility for Fulcrum does not sit with one individual.

Everyone has a part to play.

That might mean taking responsibility for a task, sharing knowledge, supporting

another team member, bringing forward an idea, challenging something

constructively, celebrating somebody else’s success or simply stepping in when

an extra pair of hands is needed.

We do expect everyone to recognise that they matter to the whole.

Common Purpose for us, is ultimately about connection.

It reminds us that what we do, how we behave and what we contribute has an

impact beyond ourselves.

We may not individually be able to solve poverty, loneliness, inequality,

isolation or every challenge facing our communities.

But if each of us chooses to do something, together we can achieve far more

than any of us could alone.

That, for us, is Common Purpose.
